The Reformation is often and easily associated with the idea of 'education'. But what does that mean concretely? To what extent is it an event of education itself? And what is its impact on the Catholic side, what is the Reformation's influence historically and currently on the specific confessional and ecumenical understandings of education? The contributions of this volume explore the historical connections between the Reformation and the modern educational ideal. They compare the reformational approach regarding the relation between faith, reason and education with the different understandings of this relation in the common ecclesial tradition and in Catholicism. Finally conclusions are drawn with regard to the common commitment of the churches for a Christian educational ideal.
