Between the classroom and clinical, there's ACTIVSim Nursing--a web-based patient simulator featuring ten different hospitalized, adult patients that monitors, assesses, and coaches students every step of the way. Students begin each scenario with a briefing and a shift report. They check the Medication Administration Record, and review the patient's chart. Then, they conduct a focused assessment and communicate with the patient who responds in real time. Students chart the NANDA diagnoses and develop a prioritized plan of care. They then deliver that care, including administering medications. They also electronically document the care they provided and the outcomes. Then, students rate their own performance. And finally, they review an in-depth 'Personal Clinical Debriefing after every experience to see how they actually performed. Students can visit each simulation as many times as they wish.
