The 'Die by Fire' invocative prayers that have in recent time pervaded the Pentecostal and Charismatic groups of the Christian faith, is to say the least, alien to the concept of forgiveness and other related attributes of God, such as Love, Mercy, Temperance. Vindictive disposition as such prayer portends, is a marked departure from the Christian fundamentals. The Bible teaches unequivocally that vengeance is God's and that He will repay when we manifest His quality of unfeigned love and mercy to even the impenitent offender. "Recompense to no man evil for evil.... Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, neither give place unto wrath, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord". In His Beatitudes discourse, Jesus urged all His followers to Love their enemies, Bless those who curse them, to do good to those who hate them and pray for those who despitefully use them and persecute them. Listen, to act contrary is to show disrespect, disregard and repugnance to the sacred injunction of Jesus Christ. At the most critical period of their existence on earth-the point of martydom, Jesus and Stephen prayed to the Father to forgive their killers and thus set a standard for Christians in all generations to emulate. What would you have done if you were Moses who suffered so much to midwife the deliverance of the Israelites, yet faced unprecedented antagonism from the same people. It is high time we returned to the Biblical pattern of prayer founded on love and mercy and not to perpetuate the perverted philosophy of prayer. Frank Charles Umoh is a crusader for the return to the time-tested path and principles of prayer. May every reader of this book therefore, heed to the clarion-calls enshrined in it for a fulfilling and more rewarding prayer adventure. Rev. Daddy D.S. Ibulubo (PhD.)
