Excellent Tool for Intermediate to Advanced French Students

The Larousse "Dictionnaire du Francais d'Aujourd'hui" is a dictionary completely in French geared towards those who are not yet fluent. It is designed "for learning and mastering the French Language". It is a wonderful practice tool if you have at least a couple of semesters of French under your belt. Whereas many French/English dictionaries simply provide the closest available English word for any given entry, the spelled out definitions here clarify the meaning of a word where it might subtly differ from the closest match in our language. The fact that it is in French provides extra practice and reinforcement for the student. While it is by no means a 'pocket' dictionary, it is small and light enough to be easily portable in a backpack.
