The proverbs selected for this book, intended for anyone who delights in and studies words, all have a tale to tell. Etymologies go back to the earliest origins, though there are often conflicting... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I learned most of my proverbs from the TV on “Aesop and Son.” In the process of telling a fable, the true meaning of the proverb appears. Such as the tale of “The Winking Horse.” “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him wink.”
Of course, if you do not want to believe the program, then you will need this book.
The book attempts to lay out the proverbs in alphabetical order. However, you will probably need to use the index to find the specific one you are looking for.
If you find this review not helpful, then all I can say is “Sticks and stones…" :)
Then again, “I might as well be hung a sheep as for a lamb.”
Just be aware that “A little learning is a dangerous thing.”
Very Interesting if You Love Proverbs...

If you enjoy proverbs and wise sayings, you will enjoy this book. It provides you with background information concerning the origins of different proverbs that you have heard all your life. This book not only provides a history of the individual proverb, but it also provides the reader with an explanation for each of the proverbs contained. I enjoyed this book very much and even refer back to it at times for interesting facts to teach my students. The only negative thing that I have to say about it is that the font size is very small and thus harder to read, but it is worth the effort. I recommend it... Interesting read.
