Book Overview

This is not AI-generated content. The contents were written and verified by subject matter experts from Aviation Supplies & Academics, an 85-year-old aviation company. Look for the ASA wings to ensure you are purchasing a reliable publication.

ASA's ultimate reference book contains more than 13,000 accurate, aviation-specific definitions and acronyms. This eighth edition collects all of the terms in the Federal Aviation Regulations (Title 14 CFR), glossaries from FAA handbooks, advisory circulars, the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), and Pilot/Controller Glossary as well as definitions not found in government publications. Nearly 500 illustrations further define and aid visual recognition of the terms, and the appendices include a useful list of 2,500 aviation acronyms and abbreviations, the phonetic alphabet, and other resources.

In an industry of acronyms and technical language, this comprehensive dictionary is an essential reference book for anyone involved with aviation and space organizations--administrators, pilots, instructors, mechanics, drone operators, colleges and universities, air traffic controllers, manufacturers, engineers, government agencies, airlines, and corporate flight departments--as well as newcomers to the industry and those who speak English as a second language.

ASA's Dictionary of Aeronautical Terms is a vital reference tool that belongs on every aviation bookshelf.

Important note from the publisher:

While AI-generated content can be helpful to identify resources for ongoing study, it is not a reliable resource for learning critical, safety-dependent topics such as aviation. AI content is sterile, often lacks important context, and is at risk of errors. ASA publishes only human-generated content to ensure it is accurate, reliable, comprehensive, and presented in context--so you can become a safe and effective aviator.

Great Reference!!

This is a great reference, whether you are new to aviation or an "oldtimer". Easy to read and easy to lookup.

Great dictionary

This dictionary has everything you need in it. Im in A & P School and I use it every day. And other students borrow it on a regulay basis. It keeps me from running to the computer every time I need to understand something.

Worthwhile for a mechanic

This was a required book for my A & P program. We haven't used it a ton but it has definitely come in handy from time to time. Some of the definitions are circular -- two definitions each referring to the other -- but for the most part they are clear and concise, quite helpful.

My A & P Instructor ...

My A & P instructor commonly touts this dictionary and highly recommends it. I haven't purchased one yet, but he is certainly more qualified then I am to recommend it.

Useful for an entry-level engineer in aerospace

I am an entry-level engineer in an aerospace company. I found that this dictionary is useful for understanding some of the terms that are used.
