It is a nheengatu dictionary. Nheengatu (good language), a Brazilian language from the Tupi-guarani proto-group, which emerged from the state of Maranh?o, in the sixteenth century, from the Tupinamb? spoken by Indians and "cabocos" of the region and has been developed with loan words of Portuguese. As soon became the general language of the Amazonian populations and spread to the most remote corners, having suffered numerous pressures to its total clearance but responded bravely. Indian nations as Bar?, Baniwa Werekena use it as their mother tongue, after they lost their original languages by pressure from non-Indians. In 2006 it was officiated by the Municipality of S?o Gabriel da Cachoeira, in the Amazonas State along with the Baniwa and Tucano languages.
