Picture if you will, let me set the stage - December 25, 2011, after watching our girls eagerly open Christmas gifts, their mom whispered that I needed to take her to the hospital. Backing down our long driveway, waving to our girls, Victoria, grasping my hand tightly, "I'm scared." Me too, honey.What was first thought to be a bad case of pneumonia, turned out be much, much worse.Three days later, legs weakened, sitting down on the cold hard floor next to the hospital elevator doors, his back firmly braced against the wall, upon learning his wife of 20 years is dying and knowing there is simply nothing he can do. Numbed by the reality before him, panicked, he searched for words and courage to tell his 3-year-old (Jo Jo) and 6-year-old (Keana) that their mom would not be coming home. How will he raise their girls alone?Cancer takes no prisoners (stage IV lung cancer).This is not a sad story.
