Chaplain Mortensen does a wonderful job of describing just what it was like for a citizen to become a soldier/pastor to men during a time of war. Our country has a fine tradition of clergy answering God's call to minister to our men in battle, and this work further illustrates what type of citizens answer that call and what it is they do. We follow Chaplain Mortensen as he enters into the Army, is trained and then leaves his wife for service on the frontlines of the Korean War. We learn of the work he performed, the men he served, and the many interesting situations he faced. This is a fine book that is easy to read, highly descriptive of people and places, and gives a fascinating look into the life of a man whose desire to serve was tested in the heat of battle.
