"Alcoholic" was a word I heard so often while I was growing up, I never thought it to be of some negative value, only that it was a word of reference. "Addict was a word I heard, but not as often and it was always associated in a negative way. I had no idea that both words would be used to describe who and what I am today. It wasn't until later on in life that I realized that in my early teens I was being courted by an addiction recognized today as a "disease".
