The year is 1560. The location is Otongwe Kingdom, near the east coast of Africa. Therein lives Chamutsa's family, a family that has grappled with society. No matter what they try, something always happens to them that sets them on a cataclysmic life path. Sebasti o I, king of Portugal, has won the favour of his counterpart Chief Gamba to establish a Catholic church in Otongwe. A young Portuguese trader believes that the time has come for him to walk in his calling-spreading the word of God to the community of Otongwe. He is not Catholic; and risks being burned at the stake.The author weaves the message of God the redeemer into the life of Chamutsa and the other characters. God's redemption process is something that many of them are not quick to accept.
