This book moved me to tears many times during the first months of my daughter's life, as I struggled to care for her while my husband battled for his life in a cancer ward. I felt very overwhelmed and in need of spiritual nurture, and this book was one of the few sources of real sustenance I found. It doesn't gloss over the hardships of being a new parent but also rejoices in the miracle and wonder of it. If only the author had been more inclusive (I'm sure the insights apply as much to new dads as to moms), I would've given it 5 stars!
Helpful spiritual resource for new parents

I bought this book second hand when struggling with depression after my daughter was born while my husband battled cancer (for the second time). Easy answers and pastel-washed approaches to spirituality and parenthood weren't cutting it. This book was a true comfort. Each meditation begins with scripture, then reflects on real life parenting and marriage experiences, ending with a prayer. Many times this book brought me to tears, since it was difficult to find my own words to pray due to the intensity of my depression and feelings of isolation. It was a constant reminder of the things that all new parents share (despite the uniqueness of the medical situation in my home) and of God's continual presence. Had the writer used inclusive language in reference to both God and parenting, I would have given this 5 stars.
