Spanning the gap between Exmoor to the north and Dartmoor to the south, the zone covers 15% of the county. Through all weathers and seasons, it tests the author's hypothesis that Devon's rural beauty lies not in its supposed naturalness, but in its kaleidoscopic combinations of colour, contrast and contour.
