"DEVIL IN BAGGY PANTS" is, in part a true story of Ray Young, a boy from the country and a son of an Irish family who came to this country in the mid-seventeen hundreds. Ray wanted only to remain in what is known as Plum Grove Hollow on a large farm that covered somewhere nearfour hundred acres near the town of Greenup, Kentucky. Ray wanted eventually to buy the farm. Things happened and that became impossible and with war looming ever close, he doeswhat all young men do. He leaves home, gets a job making good money, and lives the fantasy of a sexual encounter to never forget. Unfortunately, war came too soon when the Japanese bombed pearl Harbor and Ray joined the Army as did his three other brothers. Being strong and intelligent about survival he joined the82nd Airborne Division and was not only trained as a paratrooper but a combat soldier. Thiswould be the first time that paratroopers would be used for combat. After several missions andmore training, on a cold winter day in February 1944, his regiment was given an assignment toinvade, both by air and sea, Anzio Beach of Italy headed for Rome. Unfortunately, theircommanding officer bivouacked them in a swampy area directly in the line of fire of guns and mortars that the Germans had in the mountains and they were sitting ducks for the Germans to take advantage and the whole group was unmercifully attacked and the causalities were heavy.Ray was hit and left for. dead on the battlefield for two days presumed dead. Two days later when they came back to pick up their dead, they found Ray barely alive and this is where the story begins. Does Ray die as many doctors attended him through, or what really happens to Ray?
