Development of Engineered Magnetic Materials for Antenna Applications

The purpose of this research is to develop new materials with desirable electro-magnetic properties that are not currently available to microwave engineers. Oneunifying theme of the materials that we have investigated is that these new materialsshould be moderately low loss magnetic materials for microwave applications. Specificproperties we have investigated are impedance matched materials, tuned enhancedpermeability, reactive impedance surfaces, and negative permeability electromagneticband-gap materials. The development of new, superior antennas is the applicationemployed to prove these new materials. In this chapter, preliminary evidence whichindicated that pursuing such an endeavor would be promising is considered.
