As a teacher I use this book as my bell ringer. It assists student with developing a sense of working with numbers so that they can focus on the algebraic concepts involved in a problem and not on the arithmetic concepts in the midst of the problem. As math scores continue to decline across the nation and more students arrive in high school without these basic skills, books like "Developing Mathematical Fluency" will become critical in turning the corner to improving mathematical understanding in upcoming generations.
