This book takes a unique approach of understanding the challenges of communicating in English for native Japanese speakers and addressing those challenges. In order to better understand the needs of the Japanese audience, native Japanese speakers were involved throughout the writing process of this book, constantly providing feedback and highlighting key issues they face in everyday conversations.A common problem emerged from this consultative process. Despite most people having learned English at schools or universities for at least five years, they are unable to use the language in everyday conversations. It was not the language skills they lacked but the knowledge to use the skills were missing.
