The book of Deuteronomy, the fifth of Moses, completes the Torah, the first section of the Judaic Scriptures. It is a vital reaffirmation and extension of the statutes and ordinances given to Moses. The laws presented are not only norms on specific facts, but also a call to the conscience of the listener. In delivering his last message, Moses longed to win the hearts of the nation. We noticed five main features in the book - 1. The declaration of the supremacy of God, 4.39, 5.6, 6.4, 5. (eg Jehovah is God in heaven above and on earth below, and there is no other). These and other references show that he is not one God among many, but the only God. Monotheism is imprinted on all laws, giving them a unique authority. 2. The affirmation of God's love for his people, 7.7, 8, 10.15, 23.5. (eg, Jehovah loved you, and wanted to keep the oath). God's sovereign choice of this nation is due to undeserved and often unrequited love. He loved parents and his unshakable love tolerated the folly and failures of his people. 3. The conditions of the Sinai covenant are again affirmed, and it is against this background that Moses addresses the nation in the portal of Canaan, 4.9 to 13, chapter 5, 29.1 to 4 ... (The day you stood before from Jehovah your God in Horeb...) It was a people who had broken the covenant 4. Israel was a holy people, separated from the Lord their God, 7.6, 14.21, 26.19, 28.9 (You are a holy people to Jehovah your God...). He wanted them to be his own possession, and his laws were designed to build a holy nation. 5. Well-being and prosperity depended on obedience, 11.8, 9, 28.1 to 4. (... so that your days on earth may be prolonged...) Disobedience would result in curses, 25.15 to 68. https: //amzn.to/2Xdtq2m
