Deusicide: A novel about Europe's last indigenous nations

The second book in the series. Western history is not as cut and dried as some would have you believe. Now, with the prospect of artificial intelligence wielding control of all things digital, there's a risk that recorded history will be sanitized and made into something that can be used by the rich, to control the poor. If you don't believe it can happen in the future, you only need to look at the past. Beginning in the 7th century AD, a union between Church and State, under the aegis of monotheism, began overthrowing indigenous ruled nations on an industrial scale. By the end of the 8th century, the union yielded the greatest land exchange in human history, ownership of Western Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. As crooked a deal as any in history, the conquest was a centuries long act of violence, a blitzkrieg that only stopped when it came across an ocean, or a particularly fierce tribal society. The death of Charlemagne heralded a period of calm, time for the newly 'Christened' owners of the known world to take stock of every lock, stock, barrel, and peasant on their new feudal estates. The new world order needed time to deal with the old world order, traces of Rome's empire and 10,000+ years of collective wisdom couldn't be made to disappear overnight. Very much aware of how tenuous their ownership was, the combined forces of Church and State left no stone unturned in their quest to sanitize history and remove all traces of the old world order. The goal then is exactly the threat A.I. resents today, that newly 'Christened' serfs have no memory of their ancestors that interferes with their new place in society; unpaid chattels who work the land and provided fodder for the armies 'Christendom' needs to defend itself against the enemies of God, as determined by anyone with divine rights, which went with the territory...MM
