Great read! Must have for basketball fans

I ordered Destination Basketball through the recommendation of a friend. His words were "it's just a nice easy read and for the price, why not." So I decided to pick up a copy and I was more than impressed. The book reads as you'd imagine. A series of interviews with some of the elite college coaches in the country. Each interview is different and interesting. It gives you insight to the coaches as real people, rather than the yelling, screaming, ranting lunatic you see on the sideline. The interviews are done well, the stories the coaches have to tell are amazing to hear, and it's a smooth read. Pick it up, read the 3-5 pages with one coach, move on with your day. Really a must read for anyone who likes basketball of any level.

A fun read for sports fans of all kinds!!

This is a great read for anyone who has ever road-tripped to a game with a buddy, anyone who loves college basketball, or anyone who wants an insight into the minds of the greatest coaches in college basketball. Two guys, friends for years, decide to take it upon themselves to meet and interview some of the greatest minds in college hoops... they pull it off, both the physical task of doing it, and also the project of putting it all together into a great book! And come on... I mean, John Wooden (JOHN WOODEN!!!) invited them into his home and read poetry to them... don't you want to know how that happens to two college kids?!?!?!? The book really has 3 components: First, the stories of the trips themselves; from sleeping in the Honda Civic in the parking lot of a hotel on Tobacco Road, to driving to Texas Tech from NW Ohio and turning around to drive right back. Second, the interviews, the authors really got the coaches with their guards down. They weren't journalists, they were fans... and being fans, the coaches were a little more open and a little less defensive against questions. I found myself liking some coaches I'd never liked before based on the interviews (John Cheney and Thad Matta come to mind). The coaches just seem more genuine in these interviews than I've ever seen before. Finally, there's a stats sheet of wins/losses/career highlights/and other info on each of the coaches in the book... as well as other facts/stats tucked into each and every page of the book. Highly recommended for sports fans of all kinds!

Great Read for Hoops Fans

Really impressed by this book. It gives a great snapshot of college hoops through the eyes of normal fans. I'm glad this book was written, and I wish I would have thought of this idea. The book is filled with interviews with the top coaches, and also has plenty of stats for the college hoops nut. But even if you don't like basketball, there is a great deal of insight about life, leadership, and teaching. If you are a fan college basketball, you would definitely enjoy this book. Thanks for writing it guys, and I look forward to your next one!!!

A fascinating book!

A collection of brief non-traditional interviews with top coaches. The John Wooden interview is among the best. The authors ask questions from a fan's perspective. A fun and informative read!
