Book Overview

Dessert Schneider has her very own personal style. But sometimes walking to the beat of her own drum means walking right into a heap of mischief, especially when it comes to the legendary family recipe (and Dessert's all-time favorite treat), Grandma Reine's Double-Decker Chocolate Bars. As the oldest in a rambunctious, restaurant-owning family of six, Dessert seems to be better at getting into trouble than getting out of it. And that's because, for...

Completely original! My 2 nieces & I loved it

Both my nieces (ages 11 & 7) and I loved this book! The character Dessert Schneider is both original and believable; behaving in ways that children often do. Yes, it ends happily and the character learns the lessons she's supposed to, but the author does it in a way which never talks down to the kids. I think thats probably why my nieces enjoyed it as much as they did!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Just as a note, this book will make you hungry! The descriptions of all things dessert, but especially chocolate, are so spot on as to make your mouth water. I loved the quirkiness of the main character and the illustrations fit in perfectly with that. Hoping there will be more 'Dessert' stories to come.

Here Comes Dessert !

This is a fun book for 2nd to 4th graders. It moves quickly and has some interesting word plays that youngsters can easily understand. There are many twists and turns to Dessert. She-yes she- learns a few things about strong-headed notions and plans. We see that she is stubborn. She loves her dog and is annoyed by her younger siblings. Nothing new there. Dessert's teacher, Mrs. Howdy Doody is a strong and lovable character; eccentric, interesting, kind-hearted. Once chastened, Dessert is ready to learn from others. You can read this book for enjoyment, for its humor and for what it teaches Dessert about putting "Dessert First."

Sometimes it is better to wait!

I loved this story about 3rd grader Dessert Schneider. It reminds me of my childhood and reading the Mrs Piggle-Wiggle books. I'm so happy to see a book that teaches good moral values for children and at the same time just being fun. It lets children see that even when they do something wrong, they are still loved and they are forgiven. They are reminded that there are consequences to wrong behavior, and the doing the wrong thing feels bad. Dessert found that in giving up dessert for two weeks but saving it for later that it tasted even better after the wait. The illustrations a just perfect and have a very "French" flair about them as they should as Christine Davenier did the illustrations and she lives in Paris. I highly recommend this book. I think any 8 to 10 year old girl would love this little chapter book. Would be a great homeschool elective reading book also.

A sweet book

This book was delightful. My 6-year-old daughter enjoyed this book a lot and is looking forward to more Dessert books. I think those that enjoy Junie B books would also enjoy Dessert. It is just a well written book with wonderful characters.
