Yellowstone National Park covers 3,500 sq mi. It even includes an active supervolcano that has erupted before and will erupt again.
When it does, it will induce terror, death, and destruction. The eruption of a super volcano and the resulting volcanic winter are caused by tons of dust and gas now circulating in the atmosphere.
Yellowstone does erupt, causing widespread devastation.
Harry, a lone teenager, decides to walk north away from the scorched land but has to avoid cannibals along his path after his mother and father are killed. Harry is picked up by a roving truck patrol and then taken to a highly secretive military base where a one-in-a-million chance has been brewed to save humankind by reaching other planets circling other stars.
Collected stragglers will need to volunteer because this is the first attempt to reach for the stars using newly developed rocket fuel and engines, and the danger is real.
Harry is involved in protecting a young girl who is being harmed. The Air Force officers in charge see the need for planetary safety controls and begin creating a police force for the new planets, a so-called Planet Militia.
Harry becomes an early and trusted peace officer, before his rocket takes him out there.
