I just got this a couple of days ago and I love it. The patterns are based on traditional patterns and motifs and are well classified to skill level and technique. It is a book published in '73, so it does have B&W demonstration plates, but it does have a color insert with all of the patterns made up to view. I've seen a few comments about the lack of graphic charts. I agree, they would be helpful, but in compensation the photos are extremely lucid, often showing the stages of construction (which as a newbie to this, the demonstrations were very illuminating) and the written instructions are excellent (something the authors who extensively use charts often fail to provide, leaving one to try to count stitches on a chart which is can be small and difficult to read). She is also inspiring in her sources (which she shares). I look forward to the time my skill is such that I can pull new designs from artistic motif without a chart.
I like the other books I have recently purchased on this subject, but I truly recommend this one. I hope someday this book can find another publisher like Dover and be re-released. It is sad that such a practical and yet inventive book is priced beyond many budgets.
