Designing Instruction for Open Sharing

People today find it meaningful to give back by sharing their work in an open way as a social value. This book topic has relevance for those who design online learning for a larger public than a limited target learner audience. The open-sharing and the open-access and the open-source aspects all have implications on instructional design, especially given the global learning environment and the implications of massness. There are interesting theoretical implications of this, as well given that learning theories have evolved from a time when such mass and global delivery of online learning was not under consideration. It will help to have updated understandings of applied educational theories and practices. Also, the globalness of such learning will affect this work because of the tensions between different regions' laws and expectations for shared contents. Open teaching and learning also has to transcend local cultures and "local maxima" in order to achieve "global maxima."

This topic has wide implications for work in universities, industry, and the public sector. It is no longer fashionable to just stay within a proprietary and protectionist channel. This topic also has implications on those who manage web-facing and Internet-facing learning repositories, learning referatories, LMSes, wikis, video hosting sites, and other online learning spaces.
