Design Book for those who want to know more

When I was in a BFA program, this book was selected by the professor for the core 2-D design course. More than Allan Swan's "Graphic Design School" or other 2-D books written, this book identifies design concepts as seen in fine art and professional design work. Then it provides students with reading and examples/exercises that leads to the discovery of the design concepts. In this discovery process, students are able to train their brains to identify and solve visual problems that are in their own style, and have strong graphic quality.
