Design and Development of Automated Braking System

This book presents automatic braking system. A braking system is an arrangement of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electronic components designed to slow down, stop, or hold a vehicle in a stationary position. It operates by converting kinetic energy into heat energy through friction or electromagnetic processes. Brake the car or put the car to a halt when the system embedded detects that the car could crash or collide with the car or human or another object ahead of it. It is proposed to use an ultrasonic sensor and a camera. The camera detects Humans, Cars and Poles etc. On detection, it completely halts the vehicle to avoid the collision. Since most of the cars today use ECU to supply fuel to the car, a signal can be sent to reduce the fuel supply to the engine so that the car doesn't accelerate. And in case of electrical cars, the motors would be controlled directly. A rack and pinion mechanism can be used to control the brake pedal. In this system a rod acts like the rack which will mesh with a pinion, which is connected to a servomotor. The rack is connected to the piston in the master cylinder.
