Depressive and anxious symptoms in patients with coronary artery disease

This book brings together experiences and reflections on the field of psychology in hospitals and healthcare settings, focusing on people with ischemic heart disease. Its objective is to estimate the prevalence of depressive and anxiety symptoms in these patients and to test their association with clinical and sociodemographic variables and lifestyle habits. Between October 2012 and February 2013, 204 individuals were interviewed at the cardiology outpatient clinic of a regional public hospital after being discharged from the hospital. Of these, 110 were men and 94 were women, aged between 26 and 88 years, with ischemic heart disease. From the perspective of psychology in this context, this work was born from a collection of reflections that contribute to the consolidation of interdisciplinary health treatment, favoring a networked mental health care model that includes a clinical perspective centered on the acceptance of human suffering. Illness strongly involves the patient's psyche, when it does not extend to the family itself. Thus, this reading is especially intended for health professionals who accompany patients with coronary artery disease.
