Comparisons of bone density in carpal bones may soon complement and provide greater certainty in bone age estimates for dental treatment planning. Densitometric estimates performed by image management programs, with gray intensity readings and histograms obtained from the number of pixels in each image evaluated, will certainly contribute in the short term to providing greater certainty in treatment planning for dental professionals.
