This book has the purpose of explaining that there is no teaching in the Bible that humans have an immortal soul that goes to heaven or suffers hell-fire torture at death. Such a teaching contradicts the biblical doctrine of the resurrection of the whole person. In other words biblically "death" means "death" i.e. the cessation of life, but always with the knowledge of a future resurrection of the whole person directly on an earth which will be a renewed paradise when Jesus Christ returns to establish God's kingdom.
