A collection of unique and moving stories: In a world where technological innovation and mass media are homogenizing American English, Judith Bader Jones preserves the beauty of the vernacular... This description may be from another edition of this product.
A treasury of prose gems to savor one at a time or all at once.

Written by Judith Bader Jones, Delta Pearls is an anthology of very brief stories - most only a few pages long - set in the Missouri Delta. Ordinary men and women facing challenges from poverty, racism, loss, and their own personal demons populate the pages, and Jones' capture of the Missouri Delta dialogue, as well as Southern culture, atmosphere, and daily life, is exquisite. A treasury of prose gems to savor one at a time or all at once.

Judith Bader Jones treasure of short stories from long ago in the Ozark Mountains - Delta region of Missouri flows like honey from a Mason Fruit jar on a summer afternoon. Few writers create perfect prose, Judith is one of the best! I look forward to what I hope will be a series to continue the journey of stories and characters that remind me of the best of times growing up in the Ozarks. While I'm waiting on the next publication I will be content to revisit Delta Pearls when I need a fix of Judith's artful language and countrified insight.
AWASH WITH DELTA PEARLS

I felt as if I was drowning as I submerged myself into this story. Yes, I fell for it, hook, line and sinker. The characters caught me in their web as did the writer with her perfect prose. I didn't want to finish this book; not for the usual reason. I just didn't want it to end. I want to meet Venus and give her my love; I wanted to see for myself the Petrified Man and so on... Please everyone dive deep into this river of human experiences and you won't be sorry. I wasn't! Teresa Peck
It's the journey that fulfills us, not the destination.

Delta Pearls by Judith Bader Jones was a treasure trip into memory, uncovering feelings and incidents I had long forgotten. Her characters stand naked before you, innocent of pretense. Their words are true to the the Missouri Delta region, but the core of who they are, their hopes and fears, is universal. These stories are rich with a poets's eye for detail. They are "slices of life" that will make you pause and leave you thinking. Delta Pearls is a journey, not a destination.

This collection of short literary fiction offers strong characters involved in subtle stories that reveal individual lives and choices and translate into universal truths. It's the kind of collection you'll want to reread several times over to truly appreciate the artful use of language and the author's insight. The reviewer who didn't "get" these stories tells more about her than it does about the book. These stories are not action-filled adventure. Rather, they are stories that reveal character a little at a time.
