Not what you expect, and a whole lot more

Look at the cover... You just know what you're in for when you curl up on your bed to read this one...and you'd be wrong. This is not your standard erotic fare. Polly doesn't find new and unusual ways to describe the hardness of a man's equipment, or the soft velvety folds of a woman. She doesn't give the good bits a thousand different silly names, and she doesn't overdo the sex. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of sex, but it fits the theme of the anthology, and fits in with the dark nature of each short story. This isn't a book to read from cover to cover in a single sitting. You should read a single story at a time, enjoy the feelings, the sensations, the unease, and the wicked thoughts that will play through your mind--and other areas of your body. If the time is taken to savor, this book will serve you well. A nice mix of dark fiction and sci-fi; with an undeniable heart of lust. The stories:- The Threshold A preppy school where all but one of the student's claim to have lost their virginity. This one special young lady would be the center of attention from every angle, boys, girls, creatures from another dimension! I began reading this thinking it was going to be an interesting insight into teenage girls of today and got way more than I bargained for. The Orifice Piercings with a difference. I've heard that some find the act of metal passing through different parts of their bodies extremely erotic, but Polly finds a way to take it to a whole new level. The Dominatrix Has a Career Crisis This is funny. From the title, to the society it's set in, to the cult mentality of all the characters. Told from the dominatrix POV, it grinds and thrusts, packing a punch at every turn until the nipple clamps take affect and you piss yourself laughing as you shake your head in amazement. The Pleasure Invaders Without doubt my favorite in the whole book. It's the future, the not-too-distant future, and there's a new drug of choice. But it's highly addictive and once turned, you just can't get enough. Man or woman, straight or gay or anything in between, once you've had a bunch of these tentacles wrapped around your nether regions, there's no going back, even if you are the preeminent cop in the city. The ending was a little predictable here, but it was still a brilliantly told story. Viagra Babies Ever wonder what today's science will actually do to the children of the future, I'm guessing Polly did. Please--don't free base this stuff, it'll make you go off. Imagine It After covering sci-fi, fetishes, drugs and associated addictions, where else would any self respecting writer of erotica turn to but within. This chick, (the character in the story, but it could be equally directed at the author) has an imagination to make any teenage boy whacking off feel inept, regardless of how much he practices. `But it's not real' she's told by her therapist. Very Deep

So hard to find erotica that blends the perfect threads of intelligence, sense of humor, and of course sexy. An amazing read that will keep your sexual palette moist from cover to cover. A quirky, fun, exploration of naughty images, but giving you the tastes and smells that are lost in most modern erotic literature. Polly Frost doesn't only give you the words, but brilliantly captures the soft essence of every character and making us the voyeur that has been invited to watch. As far as erotica goes, this is top shelf. A spanking good time will be had by all.

Fantasy at its best!

Whoa. The stories in this book are quite frankly beyond most anything else I've ever read in terms of sheer uninhibited imagination. The book's jacket spells out exactly what the reader will be treated to on the inside: EXTREME EROTIC FANTASIES. And by fantasy, the author is not referring to your typical lusty daydream. These are stories that truly exist outside the realm of what is possible, and that is what gives them their power. Alien sex, orgasmic sacrificial rituals, magical dildos.... why not! I read another reviewer's comments that these stories seemed perverse or even dangerous, but again, that completely disregards what a fantasy is best used for - experiencing what we either cannot, dare not, or simply should not face in the real world. Like Alan Moore's beautiful "Lost Girls" stories, these scenarios are not necessarily meant to be re-enacted in the bedroom, but exist for the inner, wicked excitement of the reader. As for the writing, the humor and intelligence with which these stories are crated give them more power than any mere romance novel ever could. Beneath the sex and the sweat, these stories shiver with outrageous characters, complex worlds, and snarling satire. Frost is a gleeful storyteller, and the arch playfulness she puts into these stories seems to drip off the pages in sweet, sticky dollops - it gets all over the reader, and leaves her begging for more.

Charming, funny, hot

This is a wonderfully exuberant collection of erotic stories. Frost has a distinctive way with erotic fiction. These aren't just hot scenes or situations. And this isn't genre eroticism either -- and certainly not erotic-romance. It's more free-form than that. Each story has a terrific story hook of its own, as well as a bunch of very lively and persuasive characters. These people really seem to live and breathe, as well as get down and dirty. You really get involved in the goings-on -- as involved as you might reading a full-length novel. But of course it's fun and convenient that the stories are shorter than a novel. Each one of these stories could be a movie or a book in its own right. They're like little mini-movies, only with the erotic scenes that movies seldom include left in. Frost has a very free and wild imagination, that's for sure! I'm baffled that the previous reviewer doesn't see this as a virtue. And the tone of the stories is distinctive too. They're hardboiled but charming, and needless to say very hot. Thank heavens for the often blunt language, as well as the kinky perversions and enthusiastic appetities of the characters. That's what we read erotic fiction for, no? The stories are often funny too. In fact that's the one thing I'd criticize about the book's packaging -- the cover art and the language on the bookcover don't suggest how funny the stories often are. Come to think of it, the humor is a big reason the stories tickled me so much. When do you get to enjoy hardboiled, funny and hot together? The humor doesn't break the mood, and the hotness doesn't smother the humor. It's a rare combination, and I suspect that readers who have a taste for fantasy, eroticism, and subversive humor will get a big charge out of this collection. Why isn't the collection being promoted more heavily? Anyway, reading this collection left me feeling hot, bothered, and very uninhibited. I can't think of a higher tribute than that.
