Artists inevitably repurpose materials for their own needs. Paper originated as a convenientwriting and printing surface, but almost from its invention was diverted for more creative purposes,for example, as a foldable, easily cut, translucent material with sculptural potential. This exhibitionhighlights the work of contemporary paper artists as inheritors of a long tradition of paper manipulation,whether through cutting, piercing, pasting, or abrasion. The works astound through their transformationof ephemera into objects of visual drama and emotional resonance.
