I swiped this book from my parents bookshelf in our house in Pennsylvania when I was 12 and have kept it with me ever since, referring to it every time I move into a new space, whether dorm room, studio, country house, or flat. This book is about working with what you have and being inspired-- NOT buying stuff. All of the rooms pictured have warmth and sensibility, which comes from ideas more so than having money. The only fault with the book is that there are perhaps too many ideas. Maybe this is why my parents weren't more perturbed at having lost such a fabulous book-- it takes weeks to really look at all of the images with care, and many people don't have the time.
