DECEPTIVE VOWS is a powerful, fictional, but very realistic drama dealing with domestic violence. It will make you ask, what if I or someone I know were experiencing this? It follows the Journey of Patricia and her abusive husband, Andre, as they go through the ups and downs of their relationship. Problems occur when she marries Andre after knowing him for only six months, despite warnings from her best friends, Yvette and Vanessa, and her parents, Charles and Donna. Patricia also ignores the early warning signs of abuse from Andre. This leads Patricia on a rollercoaster ride through hell with the man she loves so much. We start this story out with Patricia already in prison, serving time for killing Andre. As part of a state-mandated program, Patricia must tell her horrifying story of abuse in a group therapy session, along with other women who are there for killing their abusive husbands. When she tells her compelling story of abuse, we flash back to her abusive relationship and the events which led her to kill Andre. Deceptive Vows was originally a play written by Gary Tavares, entitled "Until Death do us Part." It was performed in Oakland, CA, in 2000 and had an encore presentation in 2001. Gary Tavares has also written the screenplay version called Deceptive Vows and the award-winning short film version called Deceptive Vows.
