Il "Decamerone" di Giovanni Boccaccio, soprannominato Principe Galeotto, una raccolta di cento novelle raccontate nell'arco di dieci giorni da una brigata di dieci giovani (sette donne e tre uomini) per sfuggire alla peste che imperversa a Firenze nel 1348. Ogni giornata dedicata a un tema specifico, e le novelle spaziano dall'amore (felice o tragico) all'ingegno, dalla fortuna alle beffe, offrendo un affresco vivido e complesso della societ medievale.

L'opera celebre per la sua vivacit narrativa, la variet dei personaggi e la ricchezza linguistica, che contribuirono a definire il volgare fiorentino come lingua letteraria.
