Review of "Death of Flight 007"

Richard Sypher writes a very compelling and well researched explanation of the tragedy of Korean Airlines Flight 007, shot down over the Sea of Japan by the Soviets in September 1983. Previous books written about the incident were based on speculation and theories, fueled by the Cold War, but Sypher's book is filled with numerous new details and appears much more realistic. This account is one of unconscionable failings by Korean Airlines personnel and runaway fears by the Russians. The author extensively interviewed family members, attorneys for families of the victims, former airline pilots, and international airline-safety experts to produce a very believable account of the incident. This book relies on superior research from cover to cover. The author, as a former newspaper journalist, writes using a refreshing no nonsense approach about the cause of the event. He balances this style by showing the emotional trauma that the victims and their families suffered. As you read this book, you come to know something about many of the individual passengers, their dreams for the future and the heart-wrenching losses suffered by their surviving family members. He really puts a human face on this barbaric attack. I recommend this book highly to anyone interested in the truth about a horrifying event that nearly led America into World War III. --Mindy Bachmeier--Salem, Oregon

A Riveting Tale of Horror. Nothing is Held Back!

A truly amazing page turner! Richard Sypher has resurrected the ill fated passengers and crew members through the memories of their friends and loved ones. From the very beginning as their flight begins I became more intrigued as he opens the door and unveils the details of this perilous journey. This was all done brilliantly as all of the events from beginning to end are linked flawlessly together. As I read on, all of the combined circumstances simultaneously broke my heart and infuriated me. I wanted justice to prevail and the truth to be told. It is my belief that has now finally been done.I was so captivated that at times I felt so connected and drawn in, that I could almost visualize the horrifying events in my mind that transpired as details of the flight and aftermath unfolded before me.I learned so much that at times it was hard to fathom that the actual series of events that took place were NOT in fact fiction. As the investigation of those who were responsible and accountable for the senseless loss of so many innocent lives were revealed, and the reckless manner in how all this came to be shocked me beyond my wildest imagination! This book details a horrifying event that is part of history that we must be ever mindful of. For the future safety of those who simply trust that they are in good hands, and in hope that peace will abide among the nations, and perhaps most importantly that prayfully this will never occur again.
