Hysterical historical

M. E. KEMP's hysterical, historical mystery is an accurate tale of a little-known or noted period in colonial history. Who poisoned the Patroon's nephew on Boston Common in plain sight of all those proper Bostonians? Bad taste must be exposed, so two nosy Puritans, Hetty Henry and Creasy Cotton, embark for the colony of Albany in the Upstate New York wilderness. They come armed with business connections, senses of humor, and a goal to capture the killer. We meet unusual characters among the Dutch settlers, discover motives for murder (the nephew was a scumbag,) and enjoy lots of good Dutch cooking in this well-written mystery. A real hunk is the Mohawk, William Blue Bear, Hetty's love interest. Why oh why will she not marry him? Read the book to find out. Marilyn Rothstein

Wonderful

Loved it. Couldn't put it down. Fast-paced and easy read, history buffs and non-history buffs alike will enjoy it. M.E.Kemp has busted the myth that the puritans were all a stoic and dull bunch. Her characters are anything but, especially sleuth Hetty Henry who is strong and independent (and lusty). Hope there's more to come.

Our wonderful, independent business woman, Hetty Henry, returns for more adventures in the colonies. This time Hetty leaves the confines of Boston for the wilds of Albany, New York. The historical references, highlights of life in that time, reveal a much more permissive, less straight-laced society than one might think! An interesting contrast is presented between Hetty's two "friends", the proper (shall we say clueless?)Creasy Cotton and her gorgeous Native American business partner. It's an engrossing and fun read, and especially suited to those who enjoy historical mysteries and a peek into those early American times.
