The series starts with a locked room mystery, and the detective, sent there on a mission, is not adjusted to Paradise (Saint-Marie) life or climate, forced to stay and figure out the culprit/s. Soon, he finds himself trapped in that position on that island.
Naturally, it is funny to watch him suffer. However, we find he has a unique ability to detect the undetectable.
This turns into a formula TV series where we meet the people of the island and the visitors. Everyone gathers around the whiteboard to discuss, and in the end, there is a gathering of suspects. I make it sound simple, but the methods of dispatch and who-dun-it can be quite complex.
How can a TV formula go for over a decade? By replacing the characters (including the detective), but still thinking of unique ways to dispatch.
So, whether you just purchase a season or a decade’s worth, you will be intrigued to the end.
Oh, did I mention that the gathering of suspects was taken unabashedly straight out of the Agatha Christie formula?
I buy the DVDs for future viewing. Re-viewing after you know the culprit lets you see the clues you missed the first time around.
