This is my fourth 'Ig Goode Mystery'. The previous ones are: Decidedly More Deadly, Maxima Culpa, and Criminally Clever. For each, I wrote a synopsis. I chaffed under this task, knowing that I was giving up some of my surprises. This time, I will tell only those things that are irrelevant to these surprises. As in previous mysteries, our detective is Ig Goode, who works out of Louisville, Ky. This case begins on Pensacola Bay and most of the action takes place in Pensacola, on Pensacola Beach, on a horse farm near Frankfort, Ky., and around Louisville, Ky. The usual characters are Ig's confidants: his wife, Clare, who is Supervisor of Nurses at a large for-profit hospital; his brother, Francis, who is a Catholic priest; and Professor J. L. Dillan, who was his mentor in graduate school. Each makes a substantive contribution to guiding the investigation and to solving the case. Ig winds up with two clients; a flirtatious woman, who owns an impressive waterfront home on Pensacola Bay, and a family who owns a horse farm near Frankfort, Ky. He develops a handful of suspects and works his way through an array of, more or less, curious witnesses and information sources. Of course, there is the actual murderer(s)--I'm not even going to give away whether there is more than one. That's enough! Any more and I will ruin it for you.
