Dr. James Schaller is a obstetrician-gynecologist, who has two non-fiction books on that subject to his credit: IT'S YOUR LIFE: A GYNECOLOGIST CHALLENGES YOU TO TAKE CONTROL and BECOMING THE HUSBAND YOUR WIFE THOUGHT SHE MARRIED: IT'S YOUR LIFE TOO, MAN! Dr. Schaller hails from West Chester, Pennsylvania. The violence has been occurring in Ireland between the Protestants and Catholics for 800 years, with the Catholics suffering religious and political persecution. Four brothers, whose relatives were martyred, plot to bring an end to the war with one massive act of terror, involving chemical-biological weaponry. They are all experts, having learned science and medicine in American universities, and each is a distinguished professional. Frank Schulz, a doctor and ex-CIA agent, has just been fired by LBA, a drug manufacturing company for exposing hazards. Two thugs try to kill Schulz, and succeed in killing his friend Andy House. Schulz has already lost a friend and co-worker, Ed Ryan, who was LBA's accounts specialist. Are the deaths connected? Who are the terrorists, and when will they strike? The race is on:"'The terrorists' ignorance of our close relationship might explain the seven-month delay between Ryan's death and the attempt on my life. Could Ryan's murderers now have reason to believe he shared some information with me? Perhaps, I do have vital information, already, of which I'm not yet aware. Something I saw or heard at LBA, or something Ryan told me, which could become significant with subsequent events. Do the terrorists believe my knowledge of LBA might allow me to identify them after the plot is carried out?"DEATH BY PRESCRIPTION is a suspenseful, international cat and mouse game between the good guys and the terrorists. Schaller's medical background enables him to build quite a pharmaceutical network of terror between the United States and Ireland. He uses the most innocuous everyday household items in which to hide his instruments of death, creating urgency and many subplots. His characters are believable fanatics, and the differences between them and the heroes are very subtle. He uses nuance and sympathy to grab the reader and takes us on quite a ride. Schaller writes a detailed, plausible, and utterly compelling tale. A great read!Shelley GlodowskiSenior Reviewer
