Nothing dull about this perfect example of looking for love in all the wrong places. Under the advice of her therapist Doug, Vanessa keeps a journal about growing up, her family, and defining moments in her life. Dear Me is that journal. A record of the poor choices Vanessa made in the years after graduating high school and how one thing led to another. At one point, she allowed someone to make most choices for her, pretty much accepting whatever came her way and then blaming the other when the anxiety came along with the nightmares. "So and so 'made me'." I've really enjoyed this work of fiction. I especially liked the last meeting we read about that Vanessa had with Doug. If 1/2 stars were possible, 4.5 Has the author written any more books?

Powerful, Engaging and Edgy

On assignment from her counselor, Vanessa Palmer begins to journal her life choices and the often painful results that followed. Since it's for her benefit, she begins each entry with "Dear Me" and so the story is told in first person. In her journal Vanessa wonders what life would have been like had she made different choices. What if she had stayed home that summer instead of going to music camp, what if she had pursued a career in teaching rather than music. Readers join Vanessa as she encounters success and failure, love and disappointment. Personally, an enjoyable aspect of this book is it's locale. Set in Northern California, I know many of the places Vanessa lives, works and visits. From page one, Sword engages the reader through Vanessa's sincerity and humor. Every reader can find some way to identify with the main character. Join Vanessa on her journey and see the power of God's healing love. You don't want to miss this one! Author now resides in Northern California.

Please don't miss this one!

This book drew me in and I could not put it down. It is so real that I felt like Vanessa was a friend of mine. The book made me think about my life and some of the relationships I have had and how they influenced me. Reading this book brought back memories of my past that I had forgotten and I have now started to journal. If you have ever hurt someone or been hurt you must read this book. You will find healing.

How do you know what the right choices are?

I think this is one of the most realistic books I've read on a person searching for acceptance and love, and trying to make life choices. In the life of the main character, I can see parts of my life and parts of the lives of friends. The author is an excellent writer and depicts a true-to-life protaganist. The questions in the back open your mind to really think about making choices in life and what the ramifications could be. I plan to use this book in a book club discussion this coming fall.
