Dear Black Child ...it is okay...

'Dear Black Child' is a story that explores the dynamics and impact of generational family practices and culture on the life of a little girl named Thunjana. With the promise of a better life, Thunjana is taken from her family's home in the township of Filabusi by an affluent aunt who lives in the big city of Bulawayo. Instead of a better life, she is condemned to a life of abuse and hardship. Although well off, the aunt lacks the necessary emotional, psychological, and physical skills to care for a child. Or to protect that child. Thunjana suffers feelings of separation and loss, and with the severe abuse, brokenness, and disconnection, all of which has a huge impact on her life and character as she grows up. Later in life, Thunjana is inspired by a letter from the same aunt, and she chooses healing and breaking out of the generational cycle. She starts over again and her new self benefits not only herself, but the whole community of Filabusi in the end.
