A cinematic chronicle of friendship, grief, and survival in New York.
Hard Feelings is Dean Majd's unforgettable, decade-long portrait of friendship and survival in New York. In 2016, after the sudden death of a childhood friend, Majd began photographing the dynamics within an insular circle of young men connected through graffiti, skate culture, and nightlife. Shot largely at night with point-and-shoot cameras over nearly a decade, the photographs in Hard Feelings move between moments of revelry and rupture--intoxicated camaraderie and quiet grief--charting an intimate record of masculinity shaped by trauma, loyalty, and the possibility of healing. "Hard Feelings began innocently as a record of truth," Majd says. "It became an expression of love for the people around me, particularly my friends. It is a record of our survival."
