Kudos to Bradley Platt

Having lived in northern Michigan for over 30 years, it was with eager anticipation and some skepticism that I awaited the release of nascent author Bradley Platt's "Deadstream." After all, could a newbie novelist actually deliver a story that combines tension, emotion, mystery, and villainy while maintaining a legitimate local flavor? The answer is yes. Though a work of fiction the author's knowledge and use of actual Michigan towns and settlements brings a certain realism to "Deadstream" that would otherwise be lacking. "Deadstream's" characters are well developed and inextricably linked in a story line of desperation. Their collective demons are an amalgam of alcoholism, criminality, retribution, and lugubrious regret for lives that are less than accomplished and so much less than perfect. The author's liberal sprinkling of character introspection adds a dimension that allows the reader to get into their heads and compels the turning of pages. Its success is most revealing when the novel nears what I consider an intermission rather than its end. I use that term because there is so much more to be told about these characters and their dysfunctional lives that a sequel is presupposed.

A must read

Deadstream is a thrilling book about a young carefree man who has to face the some tragic situations. This is the best book I have read in a very long time. Once I started I could not put it down. I am waiting for the next one.

Captivating!

I found Deadstream difficult to put down once I started reading it. The novel grabbed my attention from early in the begining of the book and continued to captivate me until the very end. The author's writing enabled me to create a complete mental picture of the events as they unfolded. Each individual character was presented in a way that made me feel like I personally new them; like I was there "watching." If you are looking for a truely entertaining novel that has the ability to allow you escape into a story filled with mystery, suspicion, suspense, and action I recommend you read Deadstream.

Michigan Setting...

What first grabbed my attention was the setting in my home state! As you read about how those surroundings play into the story, before you knew it you are into the characters and the anticipation of what comes next. Definitely a great read with characters that could be the person next door. Good to see from the other reviews that there is more to look for from this budding author.

the best book I have read in a long time

What a story. After I got to about page 15, I absolutely couldn't put it down. This is not a story for the faint of heart. The kind of novel that really shows what a human (any of us) is really capable of. My only complaint=when does the next book get released? I know it is a trilogy, but come on! Get it out there!
