Iris Johansen at her best!

Iris Johansen is at her best again with Deadlock! Emily Hudson who works with artifacts for the United Nations, has traveled to Afghanistan to recover some incredibly important historical artifacts. While on the trip, Emily and her sidekick, Joel Levy, are kidnapped and tortured for what, they haven't a clue. Their captors torture Levy beyond imagination, and eventually kill him. Devastated by Levy's death, Emily is fortunate enough to have someone help her escape. Now knowing what her captors wanted, Zelov's Hammer, a priceless artifact rumored to have magical powers, an Indiana Jones-style treasure hunt ensues! This story takes you from one country to the next only to find there are more questions that need to be answered. You get it all - sex, violence, intrigue and suspense in Deadlock. Just when you think you've figured it out, you'll find the ending has a huge twist. Deadlock was a most enjoyable read and I can't recommend it enough!

Johansen at her Best

This is one of Johansen's best books to date. As usual, there are plot twists that makes you unable to put the book down. She never disappoints me.

Johansen leaps to a new level

Emily was captured by Staunton and forced to watch while her co-worker was tortured. The CIA could not rescue her, but Garret could. When Garret read about the kidnapped artifact expert, he felt drawn to her. He used his contacts and rescued Emily. Staunton would not let her go that easily and began stalking her. The only way to keep Emily safe was for Staunton to die. Garrett and Emily combine forces to stop Staunton. Their mission places everyone they care about in danger. I think I have read every book Iris Johansen has written. Her latest book, Deadlock, is not the typical suspense, romance that fans have come to expect. Johansen takes the genre to a new level. Her characters are original. Garret has a dark side. He is very passionate and loving, but there is that certain something that tells you he is a man that will stop at nothing to protect the woman he loves. Emily is anything but a victim. She suffered through the hell Staunton prepared for her,and she survived. Irana had an inner strength and serenity. (Ms. Johansen, please give us a book with Irana as a lead). Deadlock is a combination of romance, suspense, and action. The plot is well developed and one I was easily caught up in. I give this book 5 stars and eagerly await Johansen's next one.

Couldn't put it down...

I sorely disagree with the other's on this post. This book was amazing from start to finish. I could not put it down and literally read it all in one night, which is rare for me. I found the characters compelling and was sad when the book ended because I felt a bond with the book and wanted more.
