The dumpling that killed Sloane Harper was absolutely perfect.
Well, technically it almost killed her. Ninety seconds of clinical death, one near-death experience, and now she can see ghosts. Which would be fine - manageable, even - if the ghost of celebrity chef Vincent Tang would stop haunting her kitchen and demanding she solve his murder.
Sloane is a food critic. She reviews taco trucks and argues about pineapple on pizza. She is not a detective. But Vincent is fading fast, her cat keeps staring at things that aren't there (or shouldn't be), and the suspect list is starting to look a lot like a restaurant reservation book - a bitter ex-wife, a shady health inspector, a rival food critic with a grudge, and a produce vendor with something to hide.
With the help of her journalist best friend, a homicide detective who definitely doesn't believe in ghosts, and a black cat with terrible timing and excellent instincts, Sloane has to untangle a web of restaurant politics, buried secrets, and financial fraud before the killer realizes she's getting too close.
At least the coffee's good. When it stays warm long enough to drink.
Dead on Arrival is a paranormal cozy mystery with a snarky food critic, a dramatic ghost, a cat named The Void, and absolutely no dumplings that are safe to eat.
