His throat has been slit from ear to ear. The search for his killer is only halfhearted since Bobby T. Hines was a street thug. That is until his girlfriend Amelia is declared missing and feared killed by the same murderer. In another case a prominent member of the McCoy family gets run over out in front of his house and it appears that it was just the beginning of someone attempting to trim the family tree. Joe decides that Dead Jacks Highway is a focal point in that case as well. The case of the man with the gap in his neck becomes more of a priority when his girlfriend is found strangled in a motel room. Always having a soft spot for murdered women, Joe gives the McCoy case to his subordinates and goes after Amelia Olson's killer.
