Did he or didn't he?

Having read a few of Ms. Bowles' books in the past I selected hers as likely to be the fairest telling of the Peter Falconio/Joanne Lees story. I wasn't disappointed. I suspect most people are interested in this story because (for many) there is the lingering suspicion that there must be more to the story than that given us by Ms.Lees. Doubtless terrible things happened that night in the outback. Doubtless Ms.Lees was traumatised by the experience. Howver Ms. Lee's story has several holes, clearly laid out in the book, and there is the question of motive as well as a distinct lack of physical evidence, (and not just the whereabouts of Peter Falconio's body.) Why only four stars? Though an excellent and scrupulously even-handed telling of the known facts, I would have been fascinated to know what Ms. Bowles' personal view was. What does she think might have happened that night? Is Murdoch guilty? We certainly get the impression that Murdoch knows more than he is telling. And Ms. Lee's story keeps changing. It is perhaps a comment on the high quality of the book that we are left to work out possible scenarios ourselves.
