This story begins with a series of murders in Charleston, South Carolina, the Summer of 1994 and ends up in the San Francisco Bay area the Summer of 2004. By the time the Charleston Police Task Force assigned to investigate these crimes determines the killer's identity, six persons have been killed, the killer disappeared, and the lead homicide detective, Lieutenant Theodore (Teddy) Stokes, is forced into retirement.

Now a struggling Private Investigator, Teddy Stokes discovers a murder victim floating in the cold backwaters of San Francisco Bay. This gristly find might save his failing career as his past is finally dredged up, appearing like a specter out of the fog.

This complex story jumps from place to place and time to time as it unfolds, carrying the reader along to the end of the line. The distant past with its cast of characters spiral together like water down the drain, finally coming together into the present and the ultimate resolution of the gruesome mystery.
