The world argues about what happens to children when they die. Where do they go? Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, or something in between. The truth is worse and closer than anyone suspects. Six misfits wake seemingly randomly with no names, no past, and no way home. When they try to speak to the living, they are ignored ghosts in a world that keeps moving. Their confusion curdles into terror the night they all share the same dream: a woman with green eyes, Azrael who tells them to find the one who can see them. That one will guide them to an abandoned underground station where Azrael waits with the rules of their fate. Each child must choose a task, an act of courage, sacrifice, or truth that will decide whether they cross over or are dragged down. Some go it alone; others band together. But the choice is not theirs alone. Wraiths have slipped into the world with a single, brutal mission: find the child destined for Hell and pull as many as possible with them. As the group fractures and some cross over, the wraiths close in on the remaining children. Azrael races against time to shepherd them toward their tasks, but every second lost is another child at risk. In a final, violent confrontation, the survivors must either discover what they must do and save others or be ripped away and wrenched into darkness.
